Foundation Degree

You can now study for a Foundation Degree through your Advanced Apprenticeship with HETA. Higher Education is an increasingly popular option with our apprentices and through our partnership with the University of Hull there are now 3 Foundation Degrees available leading to the qualification of FdEng.

Students are taught on a day-release basis and also via work-based modules. They join full-time undergraduate students for lectures and tutorials during the course of the day, with an additional amount of evening provision. The full programme takes three years. The foundation degrees are different in style to normal courses of study in that they involve “blended learning” opportunities; this includes, for example, that the activities you do in the work place are embedded to the programme and this process allows the study to be of value to the employer. For this reason, employers must commit to supporting the employee at the beginning of the course in terms of allowing day-release attendance at University and also using work-based activity as a basis for study.

The Foundation Degree course is funded by the employer. When you start your apprenticeship with a sponsoring company at HETA, some companies are happy to assist their apprentice in meeting their academic aspirations, other employers make it a requirement of the role. Below are some FAQ's on the Foundation Degree courses available.
