John is a qualified engineer with more than 20 years’ practical experience in learning and development with the armed forces and in the energy sector.
After leaving RAF Waddington in 2003 as an aircrew instructor, John joined a power sector training company as first a high voltage trainer and then training manager. In 2007 he became the head of training in the newly formed E.ON Engineering Academy, responsible for the delivery of training to more than 6,000 delegates and 450 apprentices in four UK training centres. During his time in E.ON, John was fortunate enough to be inspected by Ofsted and to gain an insight into what it takes to meet the government standards for organisations drawing public funding for education.
He is currently a Learning and Development Director for Centrica responsible for the learning and development of more than 3,000 engineers, technicians and apprentices across the oil, gas and power sectors.
John, outside of work and HETA, is also the Chair of Governors for The Priory LSST school with particular responsibility for achievement and attainment and sixth form and boarding.
John says he has a passion for developing people to the best of their abilities and to support those responsible for discovering and nurturing talent.
