Wind Energy Apprenticeships & Training

HETA are pleased to offer the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Wind Turbine Operations & Maintenance. We are one of only a small handful of training providers in the UK to be approved and delivering this qualification.

This is available as an Apprenticeship or as a stand alone practical qualification for adults working in industry.

For the apprenticeship, we currently have a group of 8 apprentices undertaking the qualification at our Stallingborough site. These apprentices work for SSE, Centrica and Ecotricity and travel from across the UK to train for a year in our centre. The training consists of both practical and theory elements and the apprentices complete their first year with an NVQ Level 2 and a Technical Certificate Level 3 (ONC eqiv.)

Once the first year of training is complete the apprentices will then go onto site full time and begin their NVQ Level 3. This is all done in company and involves our assessor coming to site or using video evidence to prove competency in a practical environment.

In regards to the NVQ 3 for adults this is done in company to accredit existing engineers to the City & Guilds Level 3 standard as a Wind Turbine Service Technician. There is no training involved as the qualification is proving competency in an industry environment and specific to wind turbine operations and maintenance.

The NVQ Level 3 is equivalent to Siemens Level 7 Technician standard and this qualification can be done between 3-18 months depending on the candidate and their practical ability. In addition to the observation and assessment they will need to fill out log book reports and compile a portfolio of evidence to support their practical work.
