A total of 11 local companies and independent experts have committed themselves to supporting schools across Northern Lincolnshire by helping schools to enhance the delivery of the science curriculum by bringing the subject to life using real, local contexts.
The project aims to support teachers by offering them access to specialist expertise in areas in which they may not have direct experience and by helping pupils to become aware of the rich availability of STEM (science, technology engineering and maths) career opportunities in the region.
The prospectus has been produced in partnership with HETA (Humberside Engineering Training Association), the poster was unveiled at the last Science leaders meeting. Representatives from HETA attended along with science department heads from local secondary schools and the companies and experts.
Mike Cargill, HETA Schools Links Manager said "The Triple Science Support poster arose from two needs; firstly the need to find a sustainable way of engaging schools with local industry and secondly to support students studying biology, physics or chemistry courses at both GCSE and Advanced levels. The intentionally eye catching design will encourage schools to keep it as part of their wall displays with information that is accessible to both teachers and students. The poster was developed by a partnership between NE Lincs Science Advisor Sam Woad and HETA and ETAthe poster will be replicated on the HETA website where it will be updated as contact details change.
