Matt was a manufacturing apprentice in HETA’s Hull site during the 1994/5 training year. He completed his apprenticeship at De Smet Rosedowns one of the oldest manufacturing companies in the UK. After working for several companies around Hull he returned to HETA in 2006 to become a Machining and CAD Design Instructor.

After 2 successful years as an Instructor Matt was lucky enough to earn a promotion to workshop manager of HETA’s new venture with TATA Steel (Then Corus) in Scunthorpe. He project managed the implementation of a new training workshop within one of TATA’s old unused Steel Mill’s and the conversion of a neighbouring workshop into a suite of classrooms as well as working with the HETA management team to recruit and train a full new team of Instructors.

More recently in 2010, after 2 successful years in Scunthorpe, Matt got the opportunity to return to his home town of Hull as workshop manager of the main site after the departure of a colleague and is now enjoying his time getting involved with the many new projects that HETA are currently being asked to become involved with, from Renewable Energy apprenticeships to training foreign nationals to help other nations grow their own engineering talent.
