Due to COVID-19, the government’s Plan for Jobs will help to kickstart the nation’s economic recovery. In recognition of the value apprentices can bring to our economy, an incentive payment will be made to employers who hire an apprentice between 1 August 2020 and 31st March 2022.
The government will introduce a new payment of £3,000 to employers in England for each apprentice they hire. These payments will be in addition to the existing £1,000 payment the government already provides for 16-18 year-old apprentices which is explained below. This means you could receive up to £4000 to employ an apprentice.
You can only apply for this payment for NEW apprentices who started their contract of employment between 1 August 2020 and 31 January 2021.
In summary, if you are looking to take on an apprentice:
- The minimum wage for an apprentice is £4.30per hour
- Employer incentives - £4000 per 16-18yr, £3000 per 19yr +
- Excellent funding opportunities available
- No recruitment fees
You can apply for the payment from 1 September 2020, after you add new apprentices to your apprenticeship service account
