In August HETA (Humber Engineering Training Association) proudly welcomed its newest cohort of female engineering learners, responding to the Local Skills Improvement Plan’s (LSIP) call for more skilled engineers in the region. Despite significant growth in STEM opportunities, females remain underrepresented in these crucial fields. HETA is committed to addressing this imbalance and closing the skills gap for the region.
To welcome the new cohort, this week we hosted an alumni event which saw 2nd to 4th-year Apprentices return to act as mentors to the new learners. These experienced engineers offered invaluable advice and encouragement, sharing their personal experiences and journeys through the training program. Alumni from key employer partners including Drax, Aunt Bessie's, and Saint-Gobain were among those who attended, offering real-world insights to inspire the incoming cohort from Employers such as AB Graphics, Reckitts, CLDN, KWL
Iain Elliott, HETA’s CEO, expressed his pride in the alumni and the organisation’s dedication to both tackling the engineering skills shortage and promoting gender diversity in STEM.
“We are incredibly proud of our alumni who have come back to mentor the next generation of female engineers. Their achievements are a testament to the quality of training we provide at HETA and their willingness to give back shows their dedication to helping others succeed. At HETA, we are doing everything we can to meet regional skills demands while also addressing the gender imbalance in engineering. The need for engineers has never been higher, and we are here to ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to pursue a rewarding career in STEM.”
With the support of employers and mentors, HETA remains at the forefront of creating a more diverse and skilled engineering workforce for the future.
