Yesterday, HETA proudly hosted the regional finals of the WorldSkills competition for Fabrication and Welding, showcasing the impressive talent of local Apprentices. The event featured four first-year learners from HETA and two from Hull College, all of whom demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication. It was a fantastic opportunity for the participants to learn from each other and share their experiences.
The competition highlighted a critical focus of the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP): addressing the skills gap in the region, particularly in the field of Fabrication and Welding. Participating in such prestigious competitions allows learners to develop their abilities and receive invaluable feedback from industry experts, contributing significantly to their professional growth.
Iain Elliott, CEO of HETA, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, "It's a fantastic opportunity for the learners to showcase their skills and grow in their craft. It also builds essential soft skills such as time management and resilience, which are crucial for their personal development."
Sharon Jarvis, welding instructor at HETA, shared her pride in the participants: "I am so proud of all those who took part. Their dedication and hard work truly shone through."
The learners who participated in the competition are poised to have fantastic careers with employers within the region, contributing to the local engineering industry and addressing the current skills gap. This experience is a vital part of their apprenticeships, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges and opportunities.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our organising partners: Code a Weld, Air Products, Lincoln Electrical, Eng EPA, and Rambaldini Welding Services. Their support and collaboration were instrumental in making this event happen.
The event was a resounding success, highlighting the bright future of the engineering industry in the region with such talented individuals leading the way.
