Humberside Engineering Training Association - HETA

The leading engineering training provider in the Yorkshire and Humber region

HETA Staff Return to the Shop Floor for Industry-Focused Training

HETA Staff Return to the Shop Floor for Industry-Focused Training

HETA’s staff training day looked a little different this year, instead of classroom sessions, the team headed back to the shop floor. The day was designed to reconnect instructors with the real-world engineering environments they teach about every day.

As an organisation built by employers, for employers, HETA believes it’s vital that its staff maintain a deep understanding of industry practices. This ensures that apprentices benefit from hands-on, up-to-date knowledge that prepares them for the real challenges they’ll face in the workplace.

In an education sector that can often be too theoretical, HETA continues to buck the trend. Every instructor at HETA is a qualified engineer with first-hand industry experience. This unique approach means teaching is grounded in practical understanding, not just textbooks.

Apprenticeships are constantly evolving, reflecting the pace of change across the engineering and manufacturing landscape. With the introduction of a new maintenance apprenticeship standard, HETA wants to make sure learners continue to receive the very best training experience, one that reflects the latest thinking in areas such as Industry 4.0, green technologies, and sustainable engineering practices.

By spending time with employers and engaging with current technologies, processes and challenges, instructors can bring that insight directly back into the workshop training. It’s part of what makes HETA’s training so relevant and respected across the region.

The day was made possible thanks to the support of HETA’s employer partners, who opened their doors and gave up their time to share their expertise

“It’s so important that our team continue to learn from industry,” said Iain Elliott, Chief Executive at HETA. “Engineering is constantly evolving, and by working closely with employers, our staff stay at the forefront of that change. This ensures the training we deliver remains practical, relevant, and inspired by real engineering environments.”

HETA would like to thank all of the employers who supported the day, helping to keep its training aligned with the needs of modern industry, and ensuring the next generation of engineers are ready for the future.
