Humberside Engineering Training Association - HETA

The leading engineering training provider in the Yorkshire and Humber region

HETA Governance

Governance

Since 1967, HETA has been supporting engineering and industry through the delivery of high-quality technical training. As a not-for-profit organisation, strong governance is fundamental to ensuring we remain focused on our purpose, accountable for our performance, and responsive to the needs of learners, employers, and the communities we serve.

Our governance arrangements provide independent oversight, constructive challenge, and strategic guidance, helping HETA make informed decisions, manage risk effectively, and continue to deliver training that meets the needs of industry.

Our Board

HETA is governed by a Board of Trustees whose members bring a broad range of expertise and experience from industry, education, and business.

Working closely with HETA's senior leadership team, the Board provides strategic oversight and ensures the organisation remains focused on delivering its charitable objectives. The Board is responsible for ensuring that HETA:

  • Delivers against its charitable purpose and strategic priorities
  • Maintains high standards of education, training, and learner outcomes
  • Responds effectively to the evolving skills needs of employers and industry
  • Safeguards the welfare, interests, and wellbeing of learners
  • Maintains financial sustainability and robust financial oversight
  • Identifies, monitors, and manages strategic risks
  • Operates with integrity, transparency, and accountability

Strong links with industry have always been central to HETA's success. These connections help ensure that employer needs and the changing demands of engineering, manufacturing, and related sectors continue to shape our strategic direction.

By Employers, For Employers

HETA was founded by industry, for industry, and that principle remains at the heart of our organisation today.

Our governance structure helps ensure that employer perspectives remain integral to our decision-making and that we remain responsive to emerging workforce and skills requirements. This insight informs decisions relating to curriculum development, investment in facilities and equipment, and the future direction of our training provision.

As a result, HETA's strategic decisions are informed by the industries, employers, and communities we exist to serve.

Accountability and Transparency

We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance and transparency.

The Board regularly reviews organisational performance, quality of provision, financial performance, risk management, and strategic priorities. Through ongoing support and constructive challenge, Trustees help ensure that HETA continues to deliver on its mission and responsibilities.

We continually review our governance arrangements to ensure they remain effective, proportionate, and aligned with our obligations as both a charity and a leading training provider.
