Course overview

The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching is a Nationally recognised UK qualification for people who want to teach adults, college students or trainees aged 14-16.

Course details

Course Overview

  • Purpose: It prepares you for a career in further education, adult learning, or vocational training.
  • Progression: Completing it can help you apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.
  • Study Time: It usually requires around 1,200 total learning hours, split between guided study and self-directed work over 1 to 2 years

Requirements

  • Entry: You typically need Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (such as GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent), plus a Level 3 qualification in the subject you plan to teach.
  • Placement: You must complete a minimum of 250 placement hours, with at least 150 hours of actual teaching practice.
  • Observations: You must complete 10 formal teaching observations of at least 45 minutes each

Delivery: 

  • 3 hours per week delivered on an evening plus observations booked in with your course tutor
