HETA’s Mechanical Fitting & Assembly Apprentice Unit gives levy-paying employers a practical way to build mechanical capability within their existing workforce.
Designed for employees who are not currently apprentices, the two-week programme is ideal for cross-skilling engineers or developing operators with practical mechanical knowledge. The unit includes hands-on training, formal assessment and a recognised Skills England certificate on successful completion.

HETA’s Mechanical Fitting & Assembly Apprentice Unit is designed to help levy-paying employers strengthen practical mechanical capability within their existing workforce.
The programme is ideal for employees who are not currently apprentices and who would benefit from a stronger understanding of mechanical systems, equipment and fault finding. It is particularly suited to operators moving into more technical responsibilities and engineers looking to broaden their skills.
The programme is delivered over 10 days of practical training, followed by a formal assessment.
Training is focused on developing hands-on, job-relevant mechanical skills that can be applied within engineering, manufacturing and maintenance environments.
Successful delegates will receive a Skills England certificate in Mechanical Fitting and Assembly.
The Mechanical Apprentice Unit costs £1,650 per person and can be funded through an employer’s apprenticeship levy.
This gives levy-paying employers the opportunity to use existing levy funds to develop the skills of their current workforce without taking the cost from their wider training budget.
Delegates must be existing employees who are not currently apprentices.
The Mechanical Fitting & Assembly unit includes practical training in:
Drive belts and transmissions
Safe working practices
Mechanical assembly
Bearings
Fans
Gearboxes
Pumps
Conveyors
Practical fault finding
The programme is suitable for employers looking to:
Cross-skill existing engineers
Develop operators with greater mechanical capability
Build practical maintenance skills within production teams
Improve understanding of mechanical equipment and systems
Increase flexibility across engineering and operational teams
No previous engineering qualification is required.
The unit is available at HETA’s Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe centres, with rolling cohorts available from November.
